Lockdown paintings 2020

March 2020. The whole country went into lockdown. I hurriedly collected together a few art materials from my studio to take home. I continue to find it difficult to articulate my thoughts and feelings from this time; painting was no longer an integral part of my daily life and became constrained, difficult and strange. I no longer had the luxury of the large, spacious studio; unable to make art at all for the first few weeks, I tentatively began to work on a very small scale, using watercolour paints.

On my return to the studio a few months later, I continued to work with this ‘new’ medium, with the addition of gouache, which was a brand new discovery. The paintings became bigger, more playful and hopeful. I rediscovered the excitement that comes with exploring a new medium.
